This course explores digital marketing strategies from theoretical, ethical and practical perspectives. The class will examine topics such as identifying buyer personas, website design, SEO/SEM, e-mail marketing, content marketing, display advertising/programmatic and analytics. Exercises, discussion forums and assignments are designed to provide students with the foundational skills to develop, implement, and critically evaluate effective digital marketing programs.
Consumers travel through different stages as they interact with companies’ digital marketing channels, going from awareness to consideration to purchase. The course progression is designed to provide you with the skills to analyze marketing communications channels within the context of the customer journey. You’ll learn how to develop marketing communications strategies that engage consumers with a brand by aligning marketing communications messaging using the framework of a digital customer journey map.
Social media marketing explores current social media platforms and their role in a company’s marketing communication strategy, facilitating customer relationships, product innovation, and the brand equity. Specifically, the course examines how to create and implement a social media campaign, measure and track its performance, and utilize appropriate analytic metrics and software platforms. Social media will be examined as part of a larger integrated marketing communication strategy. In addition, it will briefly cover social media’s potential role in overall business operations. Applicable consumer behavior, communication, and advertising theories will be covered.
This course will provide an overview of e-mail marketing and database management and their role within an integrated marketing communication strategy. The course will examine how to create, manage, and measure an e-mail campaign as well as navigate ethical issues. In addition, emphasis will be on developing and maintaining customer databases to further our understanding of consumer behavior and build stronger customer relationships.
